It may surprise Massachusetts residents to learn that many women are not happy in their marriages. In fact, they initiate divorce proceedings approximately 80 percent of the time. The news that a woman wants to end her marriage often comes as a shock to many of the men involved.
Why is it that so many women are dissatisfied with their marriages? It appears that a disparity in roles continues to exist in marriages. Women complain that their spouses do not listen to them, address their concerns or do their share of the household chores. After years of attempting to fix the problem, these women throw in the towel and file for divorce.
The reason why so many men are blindsided by this seems to stem from an apparent belief in the old adage that “no news is good news.” If their wives are not complaining or bringing up issues, then nothing is wrong. The problem is that nothing could be farther from the truth. In a large number of cases, when a woman quits talking and trying to fix the situation, she is probably at the end of her rope and ready to walk away.
What does this mean for Massachusetts husbands? If their wives are not talking, they may want to check in with them more often, or they could find themselves being served with divorce papers. If this does happen, she probably already has a plan, so a husband needs to take steps to protect his rights as well. This means assessing the couple’s current financial situation, gathering information on assets and debts, and taking steps to determine what is needed to reach a fair and equitable settlement.
